Giraffes are such quietly magical creatures. With their leafy-edged markings, impossibly long lashes and that slow, deliberate way of moving, they always feel slightly otherworldly—like they’ve wandered in from a dream.
But despite their calm presence, life for giraffes is far from peaceful. Habitat loss due to agriculture and human settlement has massively reduced the space they have to roam. They’re also targeted by poachers for their meat and hides, and as the climate shifts and resources become scarcer, they’re coming into conflict with people more often. All of this has caused their numbers to drop significantly in recent years.
And yet, they carry on, graceful and resilient as ever. This painting is a little love letter to that strength and a reminder that admiration is only the first step. If we want to keep sharing this world with them, we need to make space, protect habitats, and support local communities who live alongside them.
