Gentoo penguins have shown incredible adaptability during the climate change crisis.
As the Antarctic Ice has melted, they have continued to thrive, moving their breeding grounds southwards to do so. This kind of change is incredibly rare; some of the breeding sites left behind had been used for thousands of years.
This is a lesson for us about how we approach the climate crisis. As the world changes around us, should we carry on doing what we've always done? Or should we change our behaviour to ensure all manner of species have a chance of long-term survival.
Hopefully we can change our ways before it's too late for the Gentoos close cousins. Adélie and Chinstrap penguins have seen their populations drop by 80% as breeding grounds and prey disappear.
